1. Introduction

Since its establishment in 2003, the major of International Economy and Trade in our university has made great progress and remarkable achievements. The school continuously introduces excellent teachers at home and abroad, strengthens cooperation and exchanges between China and foreign countries, deepens contacts with government departments, industries and enterprises, and promotes cutting-edge research in fields such as international trade, international finance, international investment, international business, trade economy and world economy, so as to cultivate international, innovative and inter-disciplinary talents in international economy and trade.

 

2. Objectives

This program is aimed to prepare students for professional careers in international trade, international business management and international investment and financing. The students will be equipped and trained to be qualified to work in the government's economic management departments, foreign capital enterprise, international trade company, bank securities institutions, consultation company in the field of policy management, enterprise management and research work analysis etc.

4. Introduction to Core Courses

Management: Management is one of the fundamental courses of business science. After studying this course, students should be able to understand the basic concepts and ideas of management, should know the basic approaches to do management research, should acquire the ability to apply fundamental management theories to the analysis of some business management practice.

Accounting: Accounting is a specialized core unit in general discipline of business management. The objective of this course is to introduce the students to both principle and general practice of accounting. This course has several modules: basic concepts of accounting; the basic theory of accounting; the accounting elements and equations; the contents and procedure of daily accounting work; some important issues need to be mentioned in the phase of summarizing accounting information; the income statement and the statement of owners’ equity; the balance sheet; cash flow statement and so on.

Microeconomics: This introductory course is one of the most important basic courses for economic major students. It provides an introduction to the theory and practice of contemporary microeconomics, and the primary focus is on how individuals and societies deal with the fundamental economic problem of scarcity. Topics include consumer theory, producer theory, the behavior of firms, market equilibrium, monopoly, and the role of the government in the economy. Throughout the course, particular emphasis is placed on how economic analysis may be used to explain a wide variety of contemporary policy issues.

Macroeconomics: It is an important and core course for economic major students. After the course, students are expected to learn theory and knowledge about Macroeconomics, and are able to apply those theories to explain Macroeconomics phenomenon. The primary focus of this module is on introduction to the major concepts, growth, inflation, unemployment and interest rates, and the interrelationships between these macroeconomic variables. In addition, students will also obtain a better understanding of 1) determination of national income, 2) aggregate demand and the impact of fiscal policy, 3) money and the role of monetary policy in a closed economy 4) aggregate supply and 5) unemployment, inflation and the Phillips curve.

Statistics: Statistics is a set of tools and techniques researchers use to study and describe the world. The purpose of this course is to introduce students to basic statistical analyses as used in the Social Sciencestheir purpose and basic methodology. Learning goals for this course are as follows 1) To become acquainted with the basic methodology of introductory descriptive and inferential statistical analyses, focusing on the organizing concept of distributions. 2) To gain competency in the critical evaluation of empirical analyses of the social world you are confronted with in civic life. 3) Obtain the tools both technical and intellectual to perform statistical analyses and critiques of your own.

Econometrics: Econometrics is a set of research tools used to estimate and test economic relationships. The aim of this course is to provide you with an overview of what econometrics is about, and develop some intuition about how things work. The emphasis of this course will be on understanding the tools of econometrics and applying them in practice.

Introduction to World Economy: The task of this course is to enable students to grasp the trend of economic globalization, information technology and financial history, the process of world economic development and structural change, sustainable development of the global issues facing the development of changes in industrial structure in developed countries developing countries, economic development and changes of the countries in transition, integration issues, the world's population, resources and environmental issues, etc., and to lay a solid foundation for further study of the professional courses.

Electronic Business: Electronic Business is a general introduction course of business administration. The objective of this course is to introduce the definition, business model, and an overview of the applications of technology basics. This course presents a managerial perspective of the broad study of Electronic Business. Topics include revenue models, E-Commerce strategy, online selling, virtual community, online auctions, mobile commerce, online security electronic payment systems, and more. Current issues, trends and solutions as they relate to Electronic Business are provided throughout this course.

International Trade Practice: This is one of the key compulsory courses for students with major in International Economy and Trade. Upon successful completion of the course, students can grasp the basic link of the vocational work of imports and exports, grasp foreign conditions of contract, and can negotiate, sign and perform the foreign trade contract skilfully. Meanwhile, students should be able to understand and apply the foundation of trade practices, export and import practice which contains business negotiation, performance of S/C, the subject matters of S/C, price, delivery, insurance and terms of payments of international trade and related problems of export and import.

International Trade Theory: This course mainly analyses the categories, causes and reasons for the flow of goods, services and payments between a nation and the rest of the world. It tries to explain the mechanisms and principles of how the domestic variables and foreign variables interact with each other. This course discusses the policy instruments directed at regulating the flow of goods, services and payments between a nation and the rest of the world and their effects on domestic and foreign variables, and also tries to seek for the methods and tactics of the optimal allocation of domestic and world resources, explain how the economic benefits to be distributed among different nations.

Transnational Corporation Theory and Practice: This course is a professional course with strong theoretical and transactional nature. The main research object is the theoretical frontier, hot issues and practical issues in transnational corporations and their transnational operations. This course introduces the dynamics of foreign direct investment and the development status of transnational corporations by elaborating the basic knowledge and general principles of the theory and practice of transnational corporations.

International Settlement: This course starting from the basic principles, basic knowledge and international practice of international settlement and contact the actual business operations so that students have a preliminary understanding and awareness of Principles of International Settlements, the international practice, and proficiency in actual business operations for International Settlements.

International Finance: This course introduces the three pillars, namely the balance of payments, exchange rates, international reserve. The three pillars of the exposition, a reform of the international monetary system, foreign exchange, foreign exchange risk, the international financial market, international capital flow, the international financial institutions and other content. Through the studying of this course, students can make clear international financial discipline research object, a solid grasp of international finance, a preliminary understanding of the basic concepts of international financial business fundamentals, as well as other international economic aspects of business courses to lay a solid foundation.

6. Graduation Requirement

Students shall pass sufficient courses in the program to get no less than 120 credits, pass HSK Level 4 (or above) and pass the graduation thesis (project) defense.
