On October 16, 2024, the CIE Chinese Chess Team held a highly successful event at the Reporting Room, Meteorology Building, marking a significant moment for chess enthusiasts and newcomers alike. The occasion, orchestrated by the esteemed Damien Laoshi, was designed to recruit and nurture new talent within the community.
Many students eager to learn about the art of Chinese Chess, also known as XiangQi, were drawn to the event, which was an exciting day full of strategy, learning, and competition. The day was a demonstration of cooperation and skill growth thanks to the knowledge and zeal of the Sports Department Chess Club members—Humayon, Inass Elouafi, Rakib, and Alifio. These seasoned players led practice sessions, offering direction and understanding of the complex realm of Chinese chess.
Following rigorous rounds of practice and observation, the CIE XiangQi Club Members engaged in a careful selection process. Based on individual performances and potential exhibited during the sessions, 20 standout participants were chosen to advance to the next level of training. This selection entitles them to receive further coaching and preparation under a dedicated coach, guiding them towards competitive proficiency in Chinese Chess.
The success of the event underscores the CIE Chinese Chess Team's dedication to fostering talent and passion for this culturally rich game. The day's achievements were not solely about chess; they were about building a supportive community and encouraging students to pursue excellence.
This enriching event lays the groundwork for future excellence and highlights the vibrant chess culture at CIE. With continued enthusiasm and support, the team anticipates further achievements and opportunities for its members.
