Ever thought about how your room says a lot about you? Well, here’s your chance to show it off! The Domestic Affairs Department (DAD) is hosting a Room Competition, open to all international students residing in ShouYuan 6, New Dorm 6, Talent Apartment, and Yu Community. It’s all about creativity, cleanliness, and how you organize your space. Whether you're entering as an individual or teaming up with your roommates, we can’t wait to see how you transform your dorm!

Competition Categories

The competition offers three categories to accommodate different living arrangements within our dormitory:

1. Single  Rooms:

Open to residents of single rooms, whether the single room is part of a private section of the apartment or located in a common area. This category is for anyone living alone in a room. If someone is living alone in what would typically be a double room but has no roommate, they may also participate in this category.

2. Double Rooms:

Exclusively for residents of double rooms, whether the room is part of a private section of the apartment or located in a common area. Both roommates must agree to participate. If one doesn't want to participate, the other cannot participate alone due to privacy concerns. Only one of the roommates should handle registration.

3. Whole Apartments:

When all roommates within an apartment agree to participate together, they enter this category. Only one of the roommates should do the registration.

* Note:  If all residents of your apartment flat(in any combination of single and double rooms) wish to participate, you must select the “Whole Apartment” category. If all roommates are interested and they register in different categories individually, all participants will be disqualified. *

Judging Criteria

For all categories, judges will evaluate:

● Room Cleanliness: Ensuring all areas, including the washroom, common space, and kitchen, are well-maintained and free of clutter.

● Organization: A well-organized space that promotes a comfortable living environment.

● Adherence to Dormitory Rules: Any unauthorized items or activities will result in point deductions.

In addition, for double room and whole apartment categories, the judges will also assess the balcony's cleanliness and organization.

Competition Structure

The competition will be held in three rounds:

1. Selection Round: Participants will submit photos of their rooms, showcasing the area they intend to present. Based on the images, judges will select entries to move forward.

2. Judges' Visit Round: Selected participants will receive an in-person visit from the judges, who will assess the rooms and common spaces, including the kitchen, washroom, and balcony (where applicable).

3. Presentation Round: In the final stage, participants will give a brief presentation of their rooms, sharing their approach to decoration and organization. Judges will evaluate creativity, cleanliness, and overall presentation.

Rules and Regulations

To ensure fairness and maintain dormitory standards, participants should adhere to the following rules:

● Cleanliness and Organization: Rooms should be tidy, with all items in their designated places.

● Prohibited Items: Any items banned by dormitory regulations must be removed prior to judging.

● Participation Guidelines: If individual roommates do not want to participate, entrants must compete in their respective single, sitting, or double room categories.

At the end of the competition, winners will be selected from each category, and exciting gifts await! This event is a great opportunity for students to express their creativity, showcase their living spaces, and compete for the title of Best Room in the Dormitory. So, tidy up and get ready to impress!
