As the Year of the Dragon bids farewell and the Year of the Snake brings forth blessings, Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology (NUIST) hosted a lively New Year Gala on January 26th at the Fengyun Theatre, just before the upcoming Chinese New Year. Organized by the College of International Education (CIE), the event attracted a distinguished gathering including university officials, local government representatives, and industry leaders.
Prior to the commencement of the Gala, Dr. Chen Haishan, President of NUIST, offered heartfelt new year greetings on behalf of the university to all faculty, staff, and students. He underscored the university's remarkable accomplishments over the past year, especially in the realm of internationalization, where its network of partners had expanded, and educational resources had diversified. He exhorted international students to cherish their study and life experiences in China, encouraging them to serve as bridges between China and other nations, fostering friendly international exchanges and cooperation. Concluding his speech, he wished everyone progress, happiness, and wisdom in the Year of the Snake.
After the speech, a captivating array of performances by both international students and teachers took the stage, including dances, band performances, yoga demonstrations, and interactive games, providing a splendid spectacle and a unique Chinese New Year experience for attendees.
During the event, Dr. Shang Hongbo, Secretary of the Party Committee of NUIST, joined three international students who are fond of Chinese calligraphy on stage to write the Chinese character for Fu (meaning blessing) together, sending the best wishes for the Chinese New Year to everyone present.
Over 1,100 Chinese and foreign students and teachers participated in the event in person. Additionally, the event was live-streamed online, enabling over 3,000 overseas alumni and international friends to watch the festivities from afar. Numerous overseas alumni left messages, conveying their sincere blessings to their alma mater.
