The College of International Education (CIE) Basketball Teams had a successful outing in the 2023 Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology Annual Basketball Competition. The boys’ team made it to the championship game, while the girls’ team played with great skill and passion.
BOY'S TEAM
The boys’ team started their tournament campaign on October 10, 2023, with a narrow loss to the College of Meteorology and Science(27:25). However, they bounced back quickly to win their next three matches in convincing fashion, defeating the College of Changwang (56:40), College of Applied Technology (27:54), and College of Telemetry (60:37).
In the championship game, the boys’ team faced off against the strong College of Physics and Electricity team. The match was close, but the boys’ team eventually prevailed, winning with a score of 37:48.
MATCH DAY 1, 2 & 3
· Match 1:
The CIE Basketball Team Lost to the College of Meteorology and Science (27:25). The boys’ team started their tournament campaign with a narrow loss to the College of Meteorology and Science. The match was close, but the College of Meteorology and Science emerged victorious thanks to a strong second-half performance.
· Match 2:
The CIE Basketball Team Won Against the College of Changwang (56:40). The boys' team bounced back from their opening game loss to defeat the College of Changwang. The team played with great confidence and teamwork, and their offense was particularly impressive.
· Match 3:
The CIE Basketball Team Won Against the College of Applied Technology (27:54). The boys’ team continued their winning streak with a comfortable victory over the College of Applied Technology. The team's defense was particularly impressive, holding the College of Applied Technology to just 27 points.
MATCH DAY 4, 5 & 6
· Match 4:
The CIE Basketball Team Won Against the College of Telemetry (60:37). The boys' team rounded off their group stage campaign with a dominant victory over the College of Telemetry. The team
GIRL'S TEAM
This year marks the first year of the girls’ basketball team after a long time of break due to the COVID pandemic. Despite its new beginning after a long time, the girls’ team also had a strong showing in the tournament despite losing both games they played. However, the tournament got postponed due to the bad weather conditions in the upcoming days. They were defeated by the Reading Academy 17:8 in their opening match and again lost to the College of Management Engineering 15:14 in their second match.
MATCH DAY 1 & 2
· Match 1:
CIE Basketball Team Lost to Reading Academy (17:8). The girls’ team started their tournament with a huge hope. Despite the new beginning and losing in the first game, they showed great skills. The team played with great intensity and focus, and their defense was particularly impressive.
· Match 2:
The CIE Basketball Team Lost to the College of Management Engineering (15:14). In their second match of the tournament, the girls’ team lost to the College of Management Engineering in a close encounter. The match was evenly poised throughout, but the College of Management Engineering managed to edge out the girls’ team in the final stages.

The team coach, Mr. Bright Bediako-Kyeremeh, and team captain, Mr. Choukpin Adoto Mignonkoun Sourou Yannick, deserve special praise for their dedication and hard work. The department would like to extend its thanks to the CIE basketball team assistant coach Namozov Bobur, team manager MBAMA MICHEL CHRIST SEPTIME, and team assistant manager Amitave Saha for the effort they made on this road to success.
